Recommended caravan paths minimizing risk.
Caravan Routes & Safe Paths
While you can let your caravans roam freely, savvy traders know that guiding them (or manually trading) along safe routes yields better long-term profits. Bandit swarms and warring kingdoms can turn a profitable venture into a total loss.
A well-managed caravan can fund your entire army.
The Golden Rule of Routes
Peace is Profit. Avoid regions where active wars are raging. Your caravans are slow targets for enemy lords.
Safe & Profitable Routes
1. The Aserai Loop (The Desert Run)
The Aserai lands are geographically isolated, making them safer from northern wars.
Route: Sanala -> Askar -> Hubyar -> Quayaz.
Goods: Buy Dates and Horses cheap in Askar/Sanala. Sell in Vlandia or the Empire.
Safety: High, but watch out for Desert Bandits near Hubyar.
2. The Vlandian Coast (The Olive Run)
Vlandia is often stable due to its corner position.
Route: Jaculan -> Galend -> Pravend -> Ocs Hall.
Goods: Olives and Grapes from Jaculan/Galend. Sell in the north.
Safety: Very High. Sea Raiders are the only threat near the coast.
3. The Northern Fur Trade (High Risk, High Reward)
Sturgia produces cheap furs but is bandit-heavy.
Route: Revyl -> Varcheg -> Omor -> Epicrotea.
Goods: Furs and Linen. Sell in the Empire.
Safety: Low. Snow and Sea Raiders are abundant.
Buy low, sell high. Look for green prices in the trade menu.
Escort Tactics
If you are leading a caravan yourself:
Speed is Life: Keep your party speed above 5.0 to outrun large bandit parties.
Scouting: A high Scouting skill lets you see threats before they see you.
Distraction: If caught, you can sacrifice some troops or goods to escape.
Desert Bandits are fast. Don't get caught in the open dunes without cavalry.
Seasonal Adjustments
Winter: Avoid Sturgia. Snow slows you down, making you easy prey.
War: If Vlandia declares war on Battania, avoid the border cities (Sargot/Marunath).
Summary
Safest: Vlandian Coast.
Richest: Aserai Desert (if you export to the north).
Deadliest: Sturgian Woods.
