Detailed look at prosperity drivers and penalties.

Economy of Town Prosperity

Prosperity is the single most important stat for a town owner. It dictates your tax income and the quality of your fief. Managing it effectively turns a poor conquest into a thriving metropolis.

A high prosperity town is visibly more crowded and developed.

Prosperity Mechanics

Prosperity changes daily based on:

  1. Food Surplus: Each point of excess food adds to prosperity growth.

  2. Projects: Building Aqueducts or Lime Kilns increases daily growth.

  3. Security: High security encourages growth; bandit infestations reduce it.

  4. Loyalty: Low loyalty can cause construction to halt and prosperity to stagnate.

Impact of Prosperity

Why do you want high prosperity?

  • Taxes: Tax income scales directly with prosperity. A 10,000 prosperity town can yield 2,000+ denars/day.

  • Production: Workshops in high-prosperity towns produce more efficiently.

  • Gear: High-tier armor and weapons are more likely to spawn in rich towns.

A prosperous town is a jewel worth fighting for.

Managing Prosperity

Governor Perks

Assign a governor with the same culture as the town. Look for Steward perks that boost tax and food production. See Settlement Management.

Building Priorities

  1. Fairgrounds: Boosts daily loyalty (crucial for different-culture towns).

  2. Orchards: Increases food production.

  3. Granary: Stores food against sieges.

Security

Clear out nearby bandit hideouts. Villagers must reach the town to sell their goods. If they are intercepted, the town starves and loses prosperity.

Strategic location on the map determines a town's potential prosperity.

Recovery: Fixing a Starving Town

If you conquer a town, it will likely be starving and have low prosperity.

  1. Dump Food: Manually sell hundreds of Grain to the market to lower prices and fill the Granary.

  2. Stop Projects: Set the "Daily Default" to Irrigation to boost food growth.

  3. Garrison: Don't overstuff the garrison; they eat the food. Keep it lean until food stocks recover.
