Keeping the army fed and healthy.

Food and Provisions

In Calradia, hunger kills more armies than swords. Maintaining a diverse and plentiful supply of food is the primary duty of any party leader. This guide details the types of provisions available and how to keep your troops fed.

Inventory Food

Food Types and Morale Bonuses

There are several types of consumable food in Bannerlord. Carrying a variety boosts your party's Morale.

  • Staples: Grain (Cheap, abundant).

  • Proteins: Meat, Fish.

  • Produce: Grapes, Olives, Dates.

  • Processed: Cheese, Butter, Oil, Beer.

Tip: Keep at least 4-5 different types of food in your inventory to maximize the morale bonus.

Sourcing Provisions: Villages vs Towns

  • Villages: The cheapest place to buy food. Each village produces a specific resource (e.g., a Grain village or Fishery). Buy directly from the source to save money.

  • Towns: Markets have more variety but higher prices. Use towns to "top up" on rare items like Dates or Olives that might not be produced locally.

  • Raiding: Raiding enemy villages yields massive amounts of food (usually Grain), often more than you can carry.

Consumption Rates

Your army consumes food daily based on the number of troops and prisoners.

  • Warning: Horses do not eat food in the inventory (unless you are using the "Steward" perk that feeds grain to horses, but generally they graze).

  • Check the Tooltip: Hover over the food icon in the bottom right to see your daily consumption and how many days of supplies remain.

Starvation Warning

Siege Logistics

Sieges take time. Before besieging a town, ensure you have at least 10-15 days of food. If you run out during a siege, your troops will start dying and deserting immediately.

Starvation and Desertion

If your food hits 0:

  1. Morale Plummets: You lose morale rapidly.

  2. Wounded Troops Die: They cannot heal.

  3. Desertion: Healthy troops will leave the party.

Always prioritize food over loot capacity. You can always find more loot, but a starving army is a dead army.
