Balanced imperial troop progression across the three empires.

Imperial Troop Tree: A Complete Guide

The Calradic Empire may be fractured, but its military tradition remains the envy of the world. The Imperial troop tree is renowned for its versatility, boasting heavily armored infantry, reliable archers, and the heaviest cavalry in the game. Whether you join the Northern, Southern, or Western Empire, these units will form the backbone of your army.

Imperial Unit Roster

The Imperial Recruit

Every great legion starts with a single recruit. Unlike other factions that specialize early, the Imperial Recruit is a blank canvas. They have decent armor for tier 1 but should be upgraded quickly.

  • Upgrade Paths: They can advance into Imperial Infantry (Melee) or Imperial Archers (Ranged).

Infantry: The Iron Wall

The Empire is famous for its discipline. The infantry line splits into two distinct roles: the anvil and the hammer.

Legionary Shield Wall

Imperial Legionary

The Imperial Legionary (Tier 5) is the ultimate frontline tank. Equipped with a heavy shield and excellent armor, a shield wall of Legionaries can hold against almost anything. They are essential for sieges and holding the line against cavalry charges.

Imperial Menavliaton

For those who prefer damage over defense, the Elite Menavliaton wields a deadly two-handed polearm. They are shock troops designed to flank engaged enemies or stop cavalry in their tracks. Use them carefully, as they lack shields.

Archers: Palatine Guards vs. Sergeants

The Empire offers two ranged options:

  1. Imperial Palatine Guard: The top-tier archer. While not as long-ranged as the Battanian Fian, they have excellent armor and are competent in melee, making them durable skirmishers.

  2. Imperial Sergeant Crossbowman: Evolved from the infantry line (surprisingly), these units pack a punch against armored targets but have a slower rate of fire.

Cavalry: The Cataphract

The jewel of the Imperial army is its noble cavalry line. You must recruit Imperial Vigla Recruits from notables to access this path.

Cataphract Charge

Imperial Elite Cataphract

These are the tanks of the mounted world. Covered in head-to-toe lamellar armor (horse included), the Imperial Elite Cataphract is incredibly hard to kill. Their "couch lance" capability allows them to one-shot almost any unit on the charge. While they may not be as fast as the Khuzait or as hard-hitting as the Vlandian Banner Knight, their durability makes them perfect for sustained melees.

Tactics

An Imperial army excels at combined arms.

  1. Shield Wall: Form your Legionaries into a thick line or square.

  2. Support: Place Palatine Guards behind or on the flanks to rain fire.

  3. Hammer: Use your Cataphracts to smash into the enemy rear once they engage your infantry.

Recruiting from the Empire gives you the flexibility to adapt to any enemy. Whether you need to hold a castle or sweep across the plains, the Eagle has a unit for the job.
