The Story of Bannerlord: Quest Overview

Set 200 years before Warband, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord takes place during the collapse of the Calradic Empire. The Emperor is dead, and three factions vie for the throne, while barbarian kingdoms press in from the borders.

You play as a rising warlord who discovers the pieces of the Dragon Banner, an ancient artifact that represents the legitimacy of the Empire.

Is the Story Mandatory?

No. You can play Sandbox Mode to ignore the story entirely. However, playing Campaign Mode gives you a starting family (brother, two younger siblings) who become powerful companions.
