Party Speed & Map Movement: Navigating Calradia
Mastering movement on the campaign map is an art. It's not just about having a high speed stat; it's about pathfinding, using terrain, and cornering your prey.
Navigation Basics
Calradia is huge. When you click a destination, the game's pathfinding finds the shortest route, but not always the safest or smartest one.
Auto-Travel: Good for long distances, but risky during war.
Manual Micro: Essential when chasing or fleeing. Click in short bursts to adjust to enemy movements instantly.
Micro-managing your clicks allows you to cut off enemies at turns.
Utilizing Terrain
Terrain types apply speed penalties that affect different parties differently.
The Forest Trap
Forests impose a heavy penalty on cavalry.
Running Away: If you are being chased by a heavy cavalry army (like Vlandians) and you are lighter (or Battanian), dive into a forest. They will slow down significantly more than you.
Battanian Bonus: Battanian culture grants a speed bonus in forests, making them kings of the ambush.
Visualizing terrain types is key to planning your route.
Rivers and Bridges
Rivers are impassable except at bridges. Use this to your advantage.
Trapping: If you can herd an enemy party towards a river bend, they have nowhere to go.
Chokepoints: Waiting at a bridge is a great way to catch caravans or raiding parties that must pass through.
Cornering Enemies
The ultimate way to catch a faster party is to pin them.
Map Edge: Drive them towards the edge of the map. They will panic and turn back, often running right into you.
Settlements: Drive them into a corner formed by a city and a mountain range.
Always check your Party Speed relative to your target before committing to a long chase!
