Patch Notes & Version Differences

Summary of major patches and how they change gameplay.

Patch Notes & Version Differences: A History of Calradia's Evolution

Since its Early Access launch in 2020, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord has undergone massive changes. Returning players often find themselves lost in a sea of new mechanics, while new players may wonder why older guides reference features that no longer exist. This guide tracks the major milestones from Full Release (v1.0) to the present.

v1.0: The Full Release (October 2022)

After years in Early Access, v1.0 marked the "finished" baseline. It stabilized the main storyline, finalized the perk trees, and introduced the banner system.

Bannerlord Full Release v1.0 Above: The v1.0 release brought the long-awaited visible banners in battle, finally letting you fly your colors high.

Key Features:

  • Banners: Equipable items that provide formation buffs.

  • Voice Acting: Major story NPCs received voice lines.

  • Stability: Massive reduction in crashes compared to beta builds.

v1.1: The "Underworld" Update (Early 2023)

This patch focused on the criminal underbelly of Calradia and Quality of Life (QoL) improvements.

Bannerlord Patch 1.1.0 Update Above: v1.1 allowed players to retire their characters and, more importantly, take over back alleys in towns.

Key Changes:

  • Alley Mechanics: You can now clear out gangs and install your own thugs in town alleys to generate income and bandit troops.

  • Fog of War: You no longer see every noble's stats and location instantly; you must meet them or visit their settlements.

  • Troop Sorting: Better options for sorting your party roster.

v1.2: The Weather & AI Overhaul (Late 2023)

Arguably the most game-changing update post-release, v1.2 changed how battles feel and how kingdoms fall.

Bannerlord Patch 1.2.0 Update Above: Weather effects in v1.2 aren't just visual; rain soaks uniforms and mud slows charges.

Key Changes:

  • Weather Systems: Rain and snow now impact movement speed and projectile accuracy.

  • Kingdom Destruction: Kingdoms that lose all their fiefs will eventually be destroyed, preventing the "guerrilla warfare" spam of landless factions raiding your villages forever.

  • Warehouses: You can now store goods in your workshops, allowing for deeper trade manipulation.

  • Combat AI: Improved blocking and formation behavior, making shield walls more robust.

Why It Matters

Understanding which version you are playing on (console versions sometimes lag behind PC) is vital. A strategy that relies on infinite kingdom wars might fail in v1.2 due to the destruction mechanic. Similarly, "alley builds" for Roguery leveling only work in v1.1+.

Always cross-reference your game version with the guides you are reading. For high-level strategy shifts, check our Patch Notes & Meta Changes guide.
