How fief distribution works after conquests.
Fief Voting & Diplomacy Decisions
In Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, the sword wins the land, but politics determines who keeps it. Understanding the fief voting and diplomacy system is essential for expanding your clan's territory without alienating your allies.
Fief Elections: How Candidates are Chosen
When a fief is conquered, a vote is triggered within 24 hours. Three clans are nominated as candidates. The selection logic prioritizes:
Proximity: Clans with nearby fiefs are favored.
Participation: Who led the siege (sometimes).
Needs: Clans with no fiefs often get priority.
Spending Influence: When to Override
If you are part of a kingdom, you can spend Influence to support a candidate (20, 60, or 150 Influence).
The King's Privilege: If you are the ruler, you can override the popular vote, but it costs significant Influence and Relation with the clans you overruled.
Diplomacy: Relation Impacts
Every vote matters.
Supporting: Voting for a clan increases your relation with them.
Opposing: Voting against a clan (or overruling them) decreases relation.
Tip: If you don't care who gets the fief, check who is winning and toss a small vote their way to farm "free" relation.
Strategy: Ensuring You Get the Fief
To maximize your chances of being on the ballot:
Capture it yourself: Leading the siege helps.
Own nearby land: Try to capture towns adjacent to your existing castles.
Horde Influence: If you are the king, you can simply force the decision if you have the Influence to burn.
Abstaining: Saving Influence
Sometimes the best move is to do nothing. If you are low on Influence or don't want to upset either candidate, choosing to Abstain costs nothing and has no negative relation impact. Save your political capital for when a rich Town is on the table.
