Seasonal Events & Patches Guide
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is a living game, with TaleWorlds Entertainment frequently releasing updates that can drastically alter the balance of power in Calradia. From major overhauls of the siege AI to tweaks in the economy of smithing, staying on top of these changes is crucial for any warlord.
Regular updates continue to refine the Bannerlord experience, adding new features and balancing old ones.
Understanding the Update Cycle
Bannerlord typically operates on two branches:
Stable Branch: The tested, reliable version of the game. Most players should stay here to avoid crashes.
Beta Branch: New features are tested here first. If you want to see the latest changes (like new weather effects or formation AI) before anyone else, you can opt-in via Steam, but be warned: save corruption is a risk.
Major Meta Shifts
Patches often change the "Meta" — the most efficient way to play.
Economy Changes
Early versions of the game allowed players to become billionaires by crafting simple javelins. Recent patches have balanced Smithing, introducing stamina costs and reducing the sell price of crafted weapons.
Adaptation: You now need to focus on Economy & Trading Guide diversely, using Caravans and Workshops rather than just the smithy.
Combat AI
The AI has become smarter. Infantry will now brace spears against cavalry charges, and archers will try to flank.
Adaptation: The "F1 + F3" (Charge) strategy is less effective. You need to learn Combat Fundamentals and use terrain to your advantage.
Keep an eye on patch notes to see which units or strategies have been buffed or nerfed.
Seasonal Events
While the single-player campaign is grounded in a gritty, low-fantasy reality, the Multiplayer component often features seasonal events.
Halloween: Spooky skins for troops and dark, foggy maps.
Winter: Snow-themed maps and festive gear.
These events are usually cosmetic and limited to the multiplayer modes, offering a fun break from the serious conquest of the campaign. Check our Multiplayer Overview for more details.
Modding and Patches
Every major patch has the potential to break mods. If you heavily mod your game, it is recommended to:
Disable auto-updates on Steam.
Wait for your favorite mods (like Harmony or ButterLib) to update before switching versions.
Consult our Modding & Best Mods guide for stable load orders.
New features like "Fast Mode" or UI overhauls are often introduced in beta patches first.
Summary
Check Patch Notes: Always read the notes on Steam or the TaleWorlds forums before loading a long-term save.
Backup Saves: Major version jumps (e.g., 1.1.0 to 1.2.0) can sometimes cause issues.
Stay Flexible: Don't rely on a single exploit (like infinite influence loops) as they will eventually be patched.
