The Regions of Calradia

Calradia is roughly divided among eight major factions, each dominating a specific biome and geographical area. Knowing who controls what is the first step to world conquest.

The West: Vlandia

On the western coast lies the land of Vlandia. This region is characterized by fertile plains and long coastlines. It is a rich land, protected by the sea to the west, allowing the Vlandian barons to focus their heavy cavalry charges eastward.

The North: Sturgia

The frozen north is home to Sturgia. This region is harsh, covered in deep snow for much of the year. The terrain here is treacherous; deep forests and snowdrifts slow down armies significantly. However, it is the primary source of furs and fish.

The Highlands: Battania

In the central-western mountains, nestled around the great lake, are the Battania woodlands. This area is incredibly defensible, with dense forests and steep hills that punish cavalry and favor foot archers.

The East: Khuzait

The vast eastern steppe belongs to the Khuzait Khanate. This is flat, open country—perfect for horse archers. The lack of natural barriers makes travel fast, but also leaves settlements exposed to rapid raids.

The South: Aserai

South of the great inland sea lies the Nahasa Desert, the domain of the Aserai. The desert is a formidable barrier; armies move slowly and suffer high attrition without proper planning. However, the Aserai cities are some of the richest in the world, acting as gateways to lands beyond Calradia.

The Center: The Empire

The heart of the continent is held by the fractured Empire (Northern, Southern, and Western). This region is urbanized, with developed roads and varied terrain ranging from plains to light forests. It is the battleground where most wars are fought.

Terrain & Strategic Movement

Terrain plays a massive role in Bannerlord. It affects your movement speed on the campaign map and the battlefield layout when you engage in combat.

  • Forests: drastically reduce movement speed and provide cover from arrows in battle. Ideal for Battanians.

  • Snow: Slows movement. Sturgians have bonuses here.

  • Desert: Saps morale and speed for non-Aserai troops.

  • Steppe: Allows for maximum speed, favoring the Khuzait.

Economic Geography

Geography dictates trade. The Economy & Trade Systems of Calradia rely on moving goods from where they are abundant to where they are scarce.

  • Grain & Olives: Abundant in the Empire's heartlands.

  • Furs: Cheap in Sturgia, expensive in the South.

  • Dates & Salt: Cheap in the Aserai desert, expensive in the North.

  • Horses: The Steppes are the best source of mounts.

Trade Routes Map Mapping out profitable trade routes is key to funding your army.

Strategic chokepoints, like the mountain passes into Battania or the land bridges connecting the Aserai desert to the Empire, are prime locations for bandit ambushes—or for your own Trade Routes & Goods optimization.

Understanding the map is the first step to ruling it. Whether you are a trader looking for the safest route or a warlord seeking the best terrain for your cavalry, the geography of Calradia is your board—play it well.
