Guide to town/village quests and notable NPCs.

Quests & Notables

In Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, Notables are the backbone of your recruitment drive. These village headmen, landowners, and gang leaders determine which troops you can hire. If they don't like you, they won't trust you with their best men.

Why Notables Matter

Every village and town has a set of notables. Their Power determines the tier of troops they offer, but your Relation with them determines how many of those slots you can access.

  • 0-4 Relation: Access to slot 1 (Recruits).

  • 5-9 Relation: Access to slot 2.

  • 10+ Relation: Access to higher slots (Veterans/Noble troops).

To unlock the best units, like the Noble Troops, you need to complete quests for these individuals.

Common Village Quests

Quests are the primary way to boost relations. Here are some of the most common ones you'll encounter:

1. Family Feud

A notable asks you to protect a family member who accidentally killed someone. You must persuade the vengeful party to stand down.

  • Difficulty: Low (requires Charm).

  • Reward: High relation gain with the quest giver, potential relation loss with the other notable if violence erupts.

  • Tip: This is one of the best ways to boost Reputation & Relations early on.

2. Deliver the Herd

You are asked to deliver horses or livestock to another settlement.

  • Difficulty: Low.

  • Reward: Gold and relation.

  • Tip: Ensure you have enough Economy & Trade Basics knowledge to know if the destination is safe from bandits.

3. Train Troops

A notable gives you a group of "Borrowed Troops" to level up.

  • Difficulty: Medium. You must keep them alive.

  • Reward: Relation and XP.

  • Tip: Don't let them die, or you lose relation!

Impact on Recruitment

As you complete these quests, you'll notice more "slots" opening up in the recruitment window. This is crucial for maintaining a high-quality army without constantly running back to your capital.

Summary

Ignoring notables is a rookie mistake. By maintaining good relations, you ensure a steady stream of high-tier reinforcements, which is vital for Troop Recruitment & Development.
